Chemung County Rod & Gun Club offers a wide range of facilities designed for safe, enjoyable use by members of all experience levels. With shooting ranges, archery, hunting, and outdoor recreation, the club provides a place to practice, learn, and connect.
shooting Ranges
The club features indoor and outdoor ranges for rifle, pistol, trap, skeet, and Five-stand shooting. With distances up to 200 yards and well-maintained facilities, members have space for both practice and organized events.

Rifle & Pistol Ranges
- 50, 100, and 200 yard ranges, all with sheltered benches
- Our 200-yd range is also used by club members who are with law enforcement, for training & qualification
- All ranges are CLOSED during 3-D Archery shoots
- No Sunday shooting before 8 AM
Indoor Range
- Regularly scheduled shooting on Thursdays, 7-9pm (Nov–Apr)
- 10 and 20 yard lanes for .22 caliber rifles & pistols
- .22 caliber rifle bench rest shooting on Tuesdays, 7-9pm
- Indoor range building is equipped with electronic air filtration
- Beginners and guests welcome
Outdoor Range
- Regularly scheduled shooting is held Tuesday & Thursday nights, 6PM till dark
- Each week is dedicated to either Center or Rim Fire pistol and rifle
- Outdoor scheduled shooting is during Daylight Savings time.
- Paper and silhouette targets used
- Beginners and guests welcome
Skeet & Trap
- Skeet Club House
- 2 Skeet fields
- 2 Trap fields & Five Stand
- Open shooting on Mondays & Wednesdays, 4PM-till dark, from May-October
- No shooting during 3-D Archery Events
- Weather permitting
Fees & Rates
Skeet , Trap & Five-stand shooting are $5.00 per round for club members, $6.00 for non-members and $4.00 for Juniors (17 and under).Rifle/Pistol Range fees are $5.00 per night.Indoor Archery fee is $4.00 per night. Annual Club fees are due upon receipt of invoice at the end of each year, for the following year.
Archery
The club offers indoor and outdoor archery spaces designed for practice, competition, and skill-building, including a 3-D course, field targets, and a year-round practice range located above the main clubhouse. Seasonal league shoots are held throughout the year, and no shotgun shooting is permitted during scheduled 3-D Archery event. The Penn York 3-D Archery League schedule is posted in the main clubhouse, or you can Download the schedule here.

Hunting Preserve
Chemung Shooting Preserve, owned and operated by the Chemung County Rod & Gun Club, specializes in upland released bird hunting across 160 acres of prime natural habitat. Located on a scenic hilltop, the preserve offers a unique, stadium-like hunting environment that provides both a challenge for experienced sportsmen and multiple opportunities for missed birds. The property includes watering ponds throughout for hunting dogs, and safety is a top priority, with blaze orange hat and vest required at all times.
- 160 acre upland bird hunting preserve, choose from Pheasant, Quail or Chukar
- Shooting Preserve Club House and bird pens
- Bring your own hunting dog or hire a guide with their dog
- Guests and new shooters welcome - Call club for costs and to schedule a hunt.
- No license required for bird hunting. Blaze orange hat and vest mandatory
- Hunter Safety Course available for club members

Big & Small Game Hunting
Club lands are available to members for hunting big and small game. Appropriate hunting licenses are required as well as the use of an orange vest and hat, (except during Archery events and Turkey season).
Sullivan Sharpshooters & YHEC Club
The club supports youth education and training through programs such as the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC – sponsored by the NRA) and Sullivan’s Sharpshooters. These programs provide hands-on experience in shooting sports, hunting skills, and outdoor education, helping young participants build confidence, responsibility, and a strong foundation in safe and ethical outdoor practices.
- Instruction in rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, and archery
- Emphasis on firearm safety, responsibility, and ethical sportsmanship
- Open to youth with support from coaches, families, and volunteers
- No shooting permitted during Archery Events
- Wildlife identification and conservation education
- Orienteering and map & compass skills

Club rules & Safety
The safety of shooters, field personnel, and spectators is of primary importance and requires continuous attention and self-discipline. The following are some basic safety precautions to be observed, but a complete list of the safety regulations are posted at the Skeet House. All shooters are expected to be familiar with these rules and to abide by them.
General Safety
- Eye and ear protection is required at all times on the shooting ranges or fields.
- Blaze orange hat and vest required (except archery and turkey seasons).
- No smoking inside clubhouses.
- No possession or use of Alcohol or Drugs allowed on club property AT ANY TIME!
- The club has scheduled events throughout the year that result in certain areas of the Club being closed to general membership use during the event. This is for the safety of members and guests.
Range & Shooting Guidelines
- All firearms should have the actions open and unloaded until at a shooting station and ready to fire.
- A loaded gun is never to be pointed at anyone or any object except the intended target.
- When shooters are on station and there is a delay, such as a problem with the equipment, all guns will be unloaded.
- The loading of more than two shells in the gun on the Skeet Field shall not be allowed at any time.
- Do not use plywood target backers to test shotgun patterns.
- Explosive targets are strictly prohibited.
- No shooting is permitted during scheduled 3-D Archery shoots – all ranges closed. 3-D League schedule is posted in the Main clubhouse.
- No Sunday shooting before 8:00 AM.
Access & Property Rules
- The rifle range road is secured by a gate and combination lock (the combination is updated regularly and posted in the club newsletter).
- Access to the rifle range may be restricted due to weather conditions.
- Club grounds and facilities are ONLY for Members and their guests.
- Rifle range side of the road, is for bow hunting only and the ranges remain open during Hunting season.
- Hunters please respect club grounds.
- Know club boundaries. Maps are posted at the club houses.
- Tree stands must be labeled with name and phone number.
- Use of ATVs is limited to club functions only.
- Failure to follow the Club rules may result in suspension or revocation of your membership privileges.
